| BOCCE BALL The approximate size of the court shall be 12' x 40'. There will be 2 teams of 4 persons per Bocce Set Two persons from each team will throw their balls from opposite ends of the court. The starting team shall be decided by the flip of a coin. Winner of the toss will use the Red Balls and the losers the Green Balls. Winner of the toss will also toss the palina or “Jack Ball”(small target ball). The person tossing the Jack Ball will throw the first Red Ball. After the Red Ball is thrown (even if it goes out of bounds), the Green team will throw until they are closer to the Jack Ball. (or vice versa) The Jack Ball must go past the half-way mark of the court or be thrown again. Each team must alternate throws with no one person throwing two balls in a row. You must stay behind end line when throwing the ball. If a ball is thrown out of turn, the ball will be returned to the present team and thrown in correct order. When a ball goes out of bounds (except Jack Ball), it will automatically be disqualified and out of play. If a Jack Ball is knocked out of bounds after play starts, the ball will be placed in bounds at 12" perpendicular to place where it went out of bounds. A ball may be thrown from any angle as long as the person is behind the starting line. Points will be awarded only if within 36" of Jack Ball. All balls of one team closer (and within 36 inches of the Jack ball) than the opposing team's ball (determined by the referee) will count as one point. Whichever team scores the last point will lead off the next frame by throwing the Jack Ball and then the first ball. Games will be 11 points or 21 points which will be decided by the referee. The exception will be when there are several teams, the referee may decide to play innings rather than a point score. This decision will occur before the start of play. A team's total scoring of the winning point must not go over the predetermined winning score (11 or 21). If a team exceeds that number, the team's score will go backwards the same number of points won by both team members on that throw. When scoring the winning point, all balls must be thrown past the half-way mark and stay in the court. If one of the balls thrown after the winning point is scored that team's points are subtracted. The final team score must be "11" or "21." THE DECISION OF THE REFEREE IS FINAL IN ANY DISPUTE. |
